The GCI Internal Seed funding scheme is a newly created initiative to provide financial support to ECRs and MCRs within the GCI membership who are employed by the University of Melbourne. The funding is for small to medium sized projects within the biomedical engineering and medtech research field.

Goals of the scheme:

  • To support researchers to build track records and research capabilities with the long-term aim to attract external funding;
  • To foster new interdisciplinary collaborations across multi faculties at the University of Melbourne and with industry partners, clinical hospitals and other institutions;
  • To enhance innovative research ideas, bringing together research expertise within the biomedical engineering and medtech field.

Up to 3 grants of $10,000 each are available within this scheme. The funds can be used for employing a research staff, purchase of equipment, lab consumables or other relevant research costs. The funds cannot be used to contribute to your own salary. All funds must be expended within 12 months from the award start date.
