The Graeme Clark Institute for Biomedical Engineering is pleased to announce we will be partaking in the upcoming BioSymposium Next-gen Biosensing: Breakthroughs in technologies and translation hosted by the BioMelbourne Network.

BioMelbourne Network's first BioSymposium of 2026 explores the development, translation, and real-world application of biosensing technologies across Victoria’s health and biotech ecosystem. Next-generation biosensors are rapidly transforming biotechnology – from medical imaging and health diagnostics to data governance and environomics. The dynamic full-day BioSymposium will bring together leaders from across Victoria’s health and biotech ecosystem for a focused, full-day exploration of how next-generation sensing technologies are developed, translated and deployed in real-world settings.

EVENT DETAILS:

  • 📅 Date: Wednesday, 22nd April 2026
  • ⏰ Time: 9:00am AEST
  • 📌Venue: ACMD Building, 27 Victoria Parade, Fitzroy 3065

🎟 Please find further event details and ticket/registration links HERE ➡ https://biomelbourne.org/event/biosymposium-biosensing/
Please note: Members of the Graeme Clark Institute are entitled to discounted ticket prices by selected the ‘In-person Member’ option.

The Graeme Clark Institute be involved in the following sessions at the event:

"Converging Sectors: Health to AgBio & Security - What Changes in Validation, ID, and Adaption"

The session will explore how sensor technologies developed in one part of the devices ecosystem are being adapted across sectors—from healthcare to biosecurity - highlighting opportunities for cross-sector innovation, shared technology foundations, and pathways for identifying and translating intellectual property across the broader life sciences ecosystem.

  • Chair - Prof Marcus Watson, Enterprise Senior Fellow Medtech, Graeme Clark Institute at The University of Melbourne
  • Dr Saimon Moraes Silva, Director | Biomedical & Environmental Sensor Technology (BEST) Centre, La Trobe University
  • Desma Grice, Partner, FB Rice
  • Mark Muzzin, Managing Director, Nexsen
  • Harry Baxter, Head of Health Security Systems Australia, DMTC Ltd.

"Sensing the Invisible - Emerging Modalities in Biotech"

This session (featuring the Institute’s Clinical Director, Prof. Mark Cook) will be exploring adaptive sensing technologies such as chemosensing, quantum sensing, wearables and advanced imaging, and how these innovations are reshaping biotech research and development.

Whether you're building sensors, using them to solve real-world challenges, or investing in technologies at the interface of biotech and data, this symposium provides a unique platform to connect, learn, and collaborate.
