Announcing two new Deputy Directors at the Graeme Clark Institute

The Graeme Clark Institute is pleased to announce the appointment of two new Deputy Directors, further strengthening its leadership to drive strategic growth, translational impact and support the next generation in biomedical engineering.

Bryony Nayagam is an Associate Professor in Auditory Neuroscience whose research focuses on hearing restoration and regeneration, stem cell therapies, and cochlear implant technologies. Based at the University of Melbourne, she leads multidisciplinary collaborations spanning auditory neurobiology, regenerative medicine, MR imaging, and translational industry research with Cochlear Ltd. Her work has been recognised through prestigious fellowships and international research appointments at Harvard and Johns Hopkins Universities. Bryony is the Passe and Williams Foundation Principal Research Fellow (2026–2030), leading international collaborations to develop an integrated human inner ear atlas with partners across Europe, Canada, and the USA.

Dr Rae Moses leads the Tissue Engineering group at Melbourne Dental School, MDHS, with a strong interest in the 3Rs (reduction, replacement, refinement), focusing on developing 3D in vitro chronic wound models. Dr Moses' interests lie in natural compound pharmaceuticals for wound healing, particularly chronic, non-healing wounds, and immunomodulatory responses; her collaboration with Royal Botanic Gardens Kew, UK, has progressed to human clinical trials. Dr Moses’ research has resulted in being included as an inventor on a worldwide patent, along with subsequent progression to human clinical trials, in collaboration with QBiotics Group and QIMR Berghofer.

A/Prof Nayagam will focus on cross-theme research collaboration and stakeholder engagement, strengthening interdisciplinary connections across the Institute's four themes and expanding the Institute's partnerships with industry, clinical, and government.

Dr Moses will focus on graduate researchers and EMCRs development, ensuring the Institute's early-career community has the support, visibility, and opportunities they need to thrive.
