Abstract:
Drawing on his extensive experience in biomedical innovation and translation, this presentation will explore the developmenof several emerging medical technologies, including a system for imaging pupil size and gaze through closed eyelids and an
autonomous ICU ventilator that uses physiological data and digital twin technology to optimise patient care. It will also
share insights from the translational research journey, highlighting key milestones, challenges and lessons learned
in bringing innovative healthcare solutions closer to clinical practice.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER:
Israel Gannot is a professor at the School of Biomedical Engineering Faculty of Engineering and a professor of Architecture at the School of Arts. He also serves as head of the University Institute for Healthcare Technology, a member of the University Ethics Committee, and head of the Dean of Engineering advisory committee on school-community relations. Additionally, he holds an adjunct professor position at Johns Hopkins University, School of Medicine, Department of Biomedical Engineering. His past roles include Biomedical Engineering Section Chief at the IDF Medical Corps, Postdoctoral Fellow at the FDA’s Office of Science and Technology, Senior Visiting Scientist at the NIH, Visiting Professor at George Washington University, and Visiting Scientist at NIST.  His research focuses on: Biophotonics and Theranostics – Developing nanoparticle-based, multimodal methods for early disease detection, treatment, and monitoring. Mid-Infrared Medical Imaging and Treatment – Advancing imaging and therapeutic applications in the mid-infrared spectral range. Technologies and systems for remote and underserved communities- Developing low-cost, portable and easy to use, even by non-medical people. The Science of Translation and Team Science – Developing methodologies for optimizing the translation of research innovations into clinical applications. Practical Ethics – Ethical considerations in the design and implementation of advanced healthcare technologies. The effect of Healthcare technologies on clinical standard of care. Israel is a fellow of AIMBE and SPIE.
